Story

Mooney Falls is about a mile hike from the campground in Havasu Canyon.  The campground follows the path of Havasu Creek between Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls in a skinny canyon.  The creek is silky green and spring fed, so the flow is pretty steady throughout the year.  The campgrounds are both large and small.  Some right next to the creek and others nearer the canyon walls.

I camped near the creek, as I love the sound of flowing water while I sleep.  I put up my tent, splashed myself in the creek, and then took a nice long nap because I was tired from the ten mile hike.  I woke up from the nap with a couple hours to go before sunset and headed down to Mooney Falls.  It’s a nice little walk down the creek until you come up to the falls.  You come at it from the top, and have to climb down some steep rock.  You go through some tunnels in the side also and people get in your way at the same time you get in their way.  Everyone is trying to take pictures and it’s inevitable.  When you get down, you climb right into the river.  Again, there is a pool below the falls that you can walk out into and terraced shelves in the river.

I spent quite a bit of time on the little island between branches in the river.  I just sat on a rock and soaked up the mist.
