Story
I took the above panorama while filming the Yosemite Valley in the Snow episode. It is about 10 shots all stitched together to make the panorama. I decided about Thursday that I would take off and do an “in the snow” episode, knowing that Yosemite had just been dumped on and that the weekend was going to be nice. A lot like the weekend coming up! I just get this feeling that I need to be there. Usually a whole series of storms keep me inside for way too long and when the sun starts shining it’s time to get out.
Yosemite is my destination of choice when I want to get out for a quick trip. I stayed in the Curry Village tent cabins. They are ok, but you can always hear people and kids talking loudly from nearby cabins and I don’t sleep well when there’s a lot of noise. I put on my iPod and went to sleep to my music. The whole weekend was spent in the meadows. Not such a backcountry experience, but I love the Yosemite meadows. I can sit and look at the surrounding cliffs and waterfalls for hours on end.
I brought my snowshoes and decided to walk along the Merced River from one end of the Valley to the other. It wasn’t very possible because roads cut over the river and make it kind of a fake snowshoe trip. But I did it anyway. I started around El Capitan and slowly made my way to Curry Village, filming all the way.
ON Networks tells me that the Yosemite In the Snow episode is the most popular show. I think it’s because of the name. Yosemite In the Snow is just appealing.
Update: writing this post got me thinking that the weather is turning nice and there is a bunch of snow up there. So I called some friends and we’re heading up to ski to Glacier Point. We’ll be camping up there somewhere. And I’m leaving the camera at home this time. Just for fun.
